Default No Power

I parked my 1987 vet in the garage about three years ago. At that time the engine started just fine drove fine. I went out to start it up and no power, no starter solenoid click, no nothing. Anyone know what's going on with her.

Battery? Parked 3 years ...why now? Getting cars back on the road can be a challenge. Was car prepped before it was parked?

Battery. Put a new one in your car, don't try to jump the old one.

Get the engine spinning and we can go from there.

I don't mean to be disrespectful. Why would anyone expect a car parked for 3 years to still have a charged battery? Dan

No disrespect taken, as for the battery at a no charge status, it was fully charged and no circuits had power after trying to start the engine. The head lights worked just fine, however, nothing else works. Gary

Polish the chip in the key and try again.

Do any circuits have power after turning the key to "Run" without trying to start the engine?

Before you go too far with this take a look behind the battery under the cover and there should be a little post with a bunch of wires on it. Check the voltage here, it should be 12 volts. This is where the majority of the fusible links get their power from. On my car the post had corrosion on it so I removed it and cleaned all the terminals and all was working after this. There is a wire that comes from the battery back to supply power to the post and that frequently gets corroded. Clean all the connections between this post and the battery.

If that doesn't help you then you need to see if power is getting to your Fuse Block. I had my fuse block corrode up on my car and again nothing inside would work. The fuse blades were aluminum and the fuse block has aluminum connectors. My fuses appeared perfect but after checking them carefully with a good VOM I was surprised that they did not have any power going through them. I changed the fuses and cleaned the fuse block to correct that.

I hope that these tidbits might help you, Good Luck!
