I am putting a 94 coupe back together and I have a question about the pre-cats.
It was missing them when I got it so I got a pair from Corvette Masters, well they appear to be the wrong ones.
Were there different versions made in different years? First thing I noticed was the O2 sensors being only 1 wire, but that was easily changed by getting new ones, then I noticed that the rt side pre-cat was missing the support bracket(doesn't even have the place to mount it) but I figured it might not be necessary. Now I notice that when I lay them out with the rest of the exhaust the pre-cats will be off set by about 6 inches and would never line up once on the car.
I really need some help here????
Does anyone have any info to share with me so I can get this back together?
Chris
94's don't have precats. They have 2 cats, one on each side that bolt up to the exhuast manifold. then the pipes run into a resinator in the middle of the exhuast then back to the mufflers. The cats look like little mini kegs.
the main (one piece) portion of the exhaust is originally off of this car, I was told that the cats were really pre-cats, so if I am wrong no problem, the issue is still the same. The Items that I am talking about match the helms manual pictures except the rt side does not have the bracket or mount for the braket on it. The cats I am refering to mount directly to the manifolds and are two seperat pieces (one for each side) and come down to mount to the rest of the exhaust which is all one piece, they do look like little kegs with alum shielding around parts of them and look like they are right with the exception of the missing bracket mount on the rt one and for the fact the either the left is too short or the right is too long (at least to match the pre-existing exhaust which appears to be original).
Hope this helps and clarifies what I am trying to ask....
'92-96 ar interchangable with the exception of the additional O2 sensor in '94 on the passenger side and the additional o2 sensor added in '96 (may have been added '95) on the driver side.
In '93 they added the bracket to the cats, but they are not necessary equipment for them to fit and work properly. What you have may be '92 cats as they used the one wire O2 and do not have the brackets.
Like mentioned, the drivers side is a bolt ond flange and the pasenger side has a slip fitting to the stock exhaust.
The only thing that will not work is if they did indeed send you precats for a '91 or ealier C4.
