Default Code 44

I have a 1990 C4 and it it showing a "Code 44" along with the following symptoms - difficult to start on first try for about 5-10 seconds. Then I do a quick restart and it fires right up (a bit rough at first). The check engine light comes on occasionally after driving 15 mins or so, and sometimes goes off. The car has been sitting for the past 2 years until recently... I have run 2 new tanks of fuel through it.

O2 sensor, fuel filter, etc?

Any ideas?

Hi !!
I see your in Pittsburgh...why don't you call Rosedale Technical College and if it's not your daily driver the students their can troubleshoot it in their classroom...Paul Danner...aka.."Scanner Danner" is a diagnostic guru and is an longtime instructor there...check out his Youtube videos or his website...you can learn a lot !!...just a thought !!

My first thought is the O2 sensor, they are cheap so I would replace. See if that does it.

Thanks! I'll go with the O2 sensor first.

For sure the O2 sensor is an issue. Once that has been resolved you can see if any other issues remain.

Why is that? Does the sensor get involved in anything until a certain engine run time has elapsed and certain other conditions are met? How does that affect the starting?
