Tach filter on a 91?

Tach filter on a 91?
A friend of mine took his car to the dealer because it had a intermittent stumble. Sometimes it would even shut down. The dealer said it was the tach filter causing the problem. They said that it is obsolete. Could a tach filter cause this problem?

That don't sound right......For sure up to 89 it's BS as the ecm sees the rpm from the ignition module wires, and the wire to the tach only has the tach filter on it-so if the tach filter goes it only effects the readout of the tach on the dash and wouldn't cause the ecm to stumble etc. I don't believe GM changed that for the rest of the speed density L98s...anybody confirm that?
