Default Throttle body bushings?

Anybody ever drill a worn throttle body and rebush it??? I'm thinking about giving it a shot, how do you get the linkage apart on one of these? How do you reload the spring? I have a mill so I know it'll be strait.

I haven't done these yet but I used to do Quadra jets all the time. There was a company called the carb shop in California someplace that we used to get the kit from........ maybe they can help? :seeya

Trying to do that this week. My son is a machinist and is planning on using oilite bushings. The shaft has excessive wear in the bearing areas. Planning on trying a chrome flash to build it up to spec. If you grind carefully on the end over by the sensors with a Dremel you can remove enough of the peening to get it off. The plate attachment screws will have to be replaced since they are "tamper proofed" with some type of solder. Hopefully can get back to you next week and leave you know how it works out.

Definitely let me know how you make out. I was thinking that the body would be what was worn more so than the shaft, as the shaft is probably harder than the aluminum body. Seems like for the cost of a couple of bushings and a ream, this will be an easy fix. I'd rather keep my original TB than risk buying another used one and having the same problem or worse.

Can you tell me what size (ID/OD/length) oilite bushings you wind up using, and what size screws you replace on the butterflies? It will really help to know this so I can have everything in hand before I start.

Also if you can, post pictures of the job.

Hey Grouchy67, how'd you make out with the throttle body bushings? I've got to get this done, I have to have a pretty heavy spring just to get it to idle down now, makes for hell driving the car with the stick.

Sorry about the delay. Just got out of the hospital (surgery) and things pretty much came to a halt. Going to try again this coming weekend if the body cooperates. Know what you mean by the drivability. Mine is at the impossible stage right now. Takes all the fun out of it.

Hey Grouchy67,

Take it easy and get healthy first, then take a shot at the throttle body.

Driveability sucks with the spring, but it got me through inspection (except that I failed for not having the button on my shift **** with the shift pattern... freakin Jersey!)

Jeesus.........Jersey again!!!! I had a 57 Chevy knocked down for inspection in Jersey for the same thing ........... 327 /4 speed and I had a hurst shifter with a t-handle......... no pattern no inspection ...... wound up changing windsheilds........ anyway ........on the spring and throttle body....... be careful about how much spring you use because the pedal is hinged in plastic and they break easily............ I made a new bracket out of some 1/4" rod ends and a metal plate..... :seeya

Good to know about the plastic bracket, I don't want anymore trouble than I need! I just finally got this car screwed together after a WHOLE lot of work converting to the 6 speed and new fuel injectors and pump.

I ALSO failed for tires, but I went to the office and they took that one back. There was this old grouchy guy who rejected it, but the younger guy that came out of the office for a second look was really kool and acted like the old guy was a just a chronic nit-picker. My Firestone Firehawks gotta have at least 75% left.

Other options:

A good carburator shop should be able to complete this task. Naturally, carb shops are getting harder to find.

Secondly, a machine shop should be able to comlete this task in about 30 minutes max. Just finding one interested in the task may be difficult.

No real need to buy a new one.

Probably can drill one out with a hand drill and punch in a bushing but recommend a drill press, from someone who's hand drill challenged.

Hope everything works out OK.
