Default Surging idle after intake gaskets

Any ideas would great. I was driving along and my intake gasket gave out squirting out water.
I changed them cleaning every part as I went. Years ago, I did have a surging idle when stopped but I
don't know what I did to fix it. After rechecking everything along the lines of vacuume hoses and all connections that seem to be fine, cant get the surge to stop..Idle was fine before .
Strange things that went down during the gasket replace is my wire came out of my egr and I crimped it back.
Nothing broke that was plastic which is a miracle. It is anoying and I haven;t had this problem for 3 years.
What did I miss, reset timing and idle setting and all of that good stuff.
Thx

Idle was fine AS PERCEIVED BY YOU doesn't mean the ECM wasn't compensating. Right now, after the fix, the compensation might be not enough. Check timing first. After that, check fuel pressure. If everything is good, scan the ECM. Engine ONLY running at stable operating temp, see what the IAC counts are. Should be around 20-30. If it is more, turn the screw in to open the blades a little, rev and recheck after it settles down. If it is less than that, turn the screw out to close the blades, rev and recheck. If you turn the screw out all the way and the blades are closed and you still get 0, check for where the leak is since you have one either in the gaskets or the hoses.

You have a vacuum leak either in one of the gaskets you replaced or a hose.

Check the runners for an air leak, thats where I always get a leak when putting the motor back together.. Usually just loosening, then retorqueing the bolts again fixes it..Could be top or bottom of runners...WW

Could the runners be installed on the wrong side?
