Ok - My car from Hell. Purchased 3 weeks ago with 70,000 miles. Had very small oil leak. Auto Repair Shop inspection determined that intake and valve cover gaskets needed replacing. Work was performed by same auto repair and finally I was called that work was complete. But, after letting car run for 20 minutes to check for any leaks and then letting car cool down, it will not start, turns over but (my but) will not start.
Should have lived with the leak. I realize my description is pretty vague but has anyone experienced or have any ideas what the problem could be. I keep thinking that something with the injectors could be the culprit. Why it started and then no longer will is something I can't explain. Although I will check back with the repair shop later today, my initial feeling is that they don't have a clue what the problem is. So if anyone has some suggestions, they will be greatly appreciated. Yes, I am considering selling at a loss except it won't start.
An oil leak will not stop the car from starting! If you left it there running and they are not a Corvette only shop beware! Flat bed it to a only shop in your area if you can.
It needed an intake gasket to repair oil leak? In any case it sounds like they didn't put something back together right. Check for loose connections all around the fuel system and vacuum system around the intake maybe. Maybe something came loose after running it because they didn't secure it properly.
Sounds like you need to check fuel and spark. They should be able to check both of those easily if it's still at the shop. If they don't know how to do simple diagnosis then it's at the wrong shop.

After talking with the mechanic, some new facts came up. First, when they started the engine checking for oil leaks after the repair, the engine died while running. They had originally said they shut it off. Mechanic stated that all fuel pressures were not a problem but the spark was not getting beyond the distributor. I lack knowledge to question what he said next. He stated that he replaced the cap and rotor and spark now when through to the plugs. When I got home and checked how to replace an LT1 distributor I was puzzled how you could replace a cap and rotor with out dismantling the front part of the motor, but maybe. I questioned if it was possible that they ran it out of gas which I seriously doubted as it had over a half tank of fuel when taken in. He said "no" when asked but stuttered a bit and said, "that's a good question." So a lot of info but no positive results. I darn near passed out when I discovered the price of a new distributor along with the labor involved. I can't grasp how you can buy a distributor for 100-150 dollars and then find others for 500+ dollars. This sure isn't the 283 that I'm familiar with. I know China products are cheaper, but "my god" what a difference. I want to thank each and everyone that has responded to my problem.
Replaced cap and rotor? Ignition on the 92 is Optispark system and replacement has you take off the water pump just to get to it. I just had it done.
OEM Optispark, water pump, hoses, thermostat, antifreeze... $1600. Hope you get it squared away.
