Good Morning Guys,

Happy Hump day... Quick question I have a 95 C4 vett. I'm going to put in new OEM spark plugs and OEM spark plug wires. On the passenger side looks very easy. But on the driver side it appears I need to take off the serpentine belt to access the spark plugs wires. Is there a diff way to change the spark plug wires with out taking off the belt ? Also does any one know what i should Gap the spark plugs too ?????

You might think different about the passenger side after doing #8. I had to remove belt and loosen the air pump mount as I could not get the connectors through. You will see. Mine was way easier as my water pump was off. Dan

Years ago when I did a spark plug and wire change on my '92, I wound up having to remove the serp belt, loosen the alternator and A/C compressor. I removed them both from their brackets and pushed the A/C compressor forward. There is a plug wire bracket under these two components that hold the wires away from the serp belt. The plug wire boots are too big to slide thru that bracket so I cut the old wire boots off, then slid the wires thru the bracket. Unfortunately, new wires would not go thru so I removed the bracket, ran the driver's side wires and then reinstalled everything.

The plugs were easy to do except for the #8 plug. It just took some time and the right combination of sockets, extensions, and a u-joint extension. You can "rent" a serp belt tool from AutoZone; just pay a deposit and when you return it, you get your deposit back so there is really no rental charge. But it's always a good tool to have and they run around $20 to $25.

Don't forget to use a small amount of anti-seize on the spark plug threads when installing them.

Wow, sounds like a mission. Thanks for all the info. Hope after all this work the car runs good. I got a nasty misfire and a bad lack of power and I already changed the MAP, Gas pump and fuel filter.

Hi Jim,

Since it's a OBD 1 . I don't have a scan tool. I've seen people in here post up about something with a paper clip but not sure where is the plug or how to read the codes. Can you shine some light on this for me ??

Because you have a 95 you don't have to have a scan tool. You can get by without one. Read this:

You can simply cut a notch in the plastic wheelwell directly lateral to the #8 and use a long extension on your socket driver through the wheelwell. That's what I did and I never looked back. I'll post a picture when I get home.

Small notch on fender well allows easy access to #8 plug with a straigt extension. See plug in pic

Removing the driver side wheel liner insert helped me feed and position the wires much more confidently and easily in the looms/ holders. Might prevent having to cut anything away on the passenger side also for #8? I managed #8 with a 3/8 ratchet +swivel on a standard plug socket. Diff brands are slightly different lengths tho. Just gotta get yourself situated 1st haha. Def a tedious endeavor doing plugs & wires on these opti- LT's. Take your time & do it right, so you can KNOW that the next misfire codes will HAVE to be something else 👍 Lol

Remove the air intake from the throttle body, serpentine belt and the serpentine belt tensioner. It will give you much easier access to the driver side wires and opti. It still won't be super easy, but it is worth it.
