Suggestions for adjusting window after installing a new regulator
I had to install a new window regulator on the driver’s side. The old one came apart in the door and jammed in the up position. (This not not a fun job at all) It is an all-new unit with motor from Keen Parts Inc.
Now it’s all back together and have 2 problems.
1. The switch now operates backwards... up is down and down is up. I have a call into the tech. department for this.
2. I cannot get the window aligned correctly. Goes up and down fine (albeit in the opposite direction as it should).
All the way up, it binds on the weather stripping at the front. Ease the window back and it binds on the upper back corner of the weather stripping, Seems to be falling a little short of getting as high as it should, too.
Done many regulators over the past 35 years... never on a C4... and never have had issues like this. Just had to walk away for a while.
Any suggestions or helpful hints would be GREATLY appreciated.
I wouldn't bother until the motor problem is addressed, may end up with a new one.
Yep. Manufacturer wanted to replace it. While I was getting the return sorted out, I left it in the door and tried to adjust it... that’s when I realized it wasn’t so simple. Re-read the thread and spent some time in the shop with a light in the door. I see where how to fix it and know where I went wrong. Taking pix for another forum member who asked to work on this together. Just need the new unit to get here.
2) I meant to take some pictures and do a thread on window and door alignment when I took mine apart for paint. There's a good write up on it, but it needs pics.
Looking at mine before I took it apart, basically and IMO, one of the best indicators you have is the top edge of the window and how it meets the weatherstrip when the door is held almost closed, but before the door latches
It should be an even gap from front to rear, about 3/8ths or 5/16ths of an inch at the top, against where the window sits in the weatherstrip when fully closed. When closing completely it should slide in easily and fill this gap.
That seems to be when it is "right" If it is fighting, binding, tucking the weatherstrip, etc, then it is wrong, it will leak, and generally try to drive you insane making little adjustments here and there and everywhere to correct it.
