So I just finished my 84' race car it has the Doug Nash 4+3 in it. Now I'm not putting out a ton of power, however I doubt I'll ever use the overdrive and it sounds like that is the weak part of the gearbox. I have a few questions.
What are my options to swap out the Doug Nash unit?? I know I could lay down a bunch of money and get a Richmond 5 speed or upgrade to one of the later ZF units, but I'd rather spend my money other places! The car is going budget racing (World racing league, Champ, MC) so I'm honestly looking for a cheaper 4 or 5 speed option. Does anyone make a C beam adaptor for for these cars for a Super T10 or a T56?

In your own words keeping with your own parameters, I'd leave your transmission alone. Pretty solid unit and you will introduce expensive variable if you swap.

Just weighing my options. For the time being we will leave it in there, if it fails or we have issues then I might move on.
I plan to race the car at Road America, doing the math I might need a taller gear, I have the OD on a manual switch now, so we will see. Ive gotten mixed reviews on the Doug Nash, some people say it will live just fine if you take care of it, others disagree.
The 4-speed portion of the Doug Nash 4+3 is actually Borg-Warner Super T-10. The box is pretty strong and if you don't use the OD, you shouldn't have any problems. It would be a good idea to service the OD unit using fresh ATF (no synthetic fluid!) and a filter. IMHO. the only downside to the 4+3 in a race car is the shifter; not very strong and it attaches to the trans tunnel and not the trans itself. I think that getting a good clutch package for your car would be the best thing to do. It would also be a good idea to carefully inspect the trans and maybe get a rebuild kit that has synchro's, bearings, and seals.
With the rest, T56 swaps arent cheap. Most used ones are too old and need going through, conversion clutches and FW cost a little too.
A good sorted out 4 spd, nothing wrong with it. Id try and make what you have work as you arent worried about every last mpg
Ive only used 6th a few times, its pretty much useless even with a deep gear. If you do swap 5 is plenty
