Re: 1990 TRANS OVERHEATING??????? OR WHAT (ETVETTE)
HIT THE CAPS LOCK KEY. TYPING IN ALL CAPS MEANS YOURE YELLING.
Try Random Tech or Car-Sound cats, theyre both high-flow cats so you dont have to change them out if you modify the engine and they still pass emissions.
i think its randomtechnology.com and car-sound.com
or something similar
Re: 1990 TRANS OVERHEATING??????? OR WHAT (ETVETTE)
Thanks didn't know caps were yell try to do better
use to typing in caps for program we use at work
So the cats are bad??????
thanks
It is possible. The same area (footwells) began to get warm on mine before the cat started to rattle on acceleration. Main cat was breaking up and starting to clog.
Re: 1990 TRANS OVERHEATING??????? OR WHAT (Steel Blue 91)
Id get the car running warm one night then park it, open the hood, and look down at the precats. If theyre glowing red, theyre done. Random tech makes good main cats, but if your precats are bad youll need a new front Y pipe.
If they are the culprits, try one of the magazines (Ecklers, Mid America) for the new Ypipe.
Re: 1990 TRANS OVERHEATING??????? OR WHAT (vader86)
How many miles on the car? Take a look at your front exhaust pipe ("Y" pipe). Do you have pre-cats? (Bulge in the pipe.) (Not sure if the 90 still came w/ pre-cats.) These are the things that will be glowing, if they are the cause. If you don't have them, that is not the source of your hot leg. Odds are, they are there, and are the cause. You don't need pre-cats to pass emissions test. The car will have noticably more power w/o them. (Suggest you don't replace them.) All you need is a healthy main cat, and the EPA and your engine will be happy. There are prebent Y pipes for your car that come w/ and w/o the pre-cats. The pre-cat pipe will be expensive. If your pre-cats are bad, they may have ruined the main cat, or there is a good chance the main cat is not up to par. Replacing it w/ an aftermarket high flow version like Random Technologies will put a smile on your face. (After you get overpaying the bill.) Cats and pipes are expensive items. Do it yourself, or bring it to an exhaust shop.
