Default REAR HATCH NOT OPENING

The rear hatch on my '88 coupe just gave out. It will not open using the door latch or the center console button. I figured the place to start first was checking the fuse; but where is it? Apparently it is not in the right-front dash fuse panel. The '88 owner's manual states it is under the hood but does not give specifics as to where. On the other hand, the Hayes Repair Manual states that only '92 and up have an underhood fuse box.
Any advice would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

OK, before you hunt down a possible fuse lets see if you have the same problem I have.

Listen closely near the latch and hit one of the release buttons. Do you hear a click? If yes then you have a bad selenoid, my problem. There is a wire for a manual release. Its kinda hard to get to but you can release the hatch with it.

If no then its a fuse or a relay. Not sure which fuse it is, but I'm sure someone will chime in here.

jaa1988, thanks!
It is making the clicking noise when either button is hit.
So how do I get to the selenoid and replace it?

Find the manual release. I have big hands so its hard for me. You put your hand in below the cargo shade and feel around for a thin wire. Pull on it and the hatch will open. Remove the trim piece and look down at the hatch latch. You'll see the selenoid. I haven't changed mine yet - summer is over so I don't use it. But its on the winter repair list. I'll probably get to it over Thanksgiving.
