OEM alternator replacement
I bought a 1985 C4 with 5129 miles and have a nice aftermarket 120 amp alternator that the PO put on it many years ago.
I want to have the car NCRS judged with the 1105585 stock alternator but having trouble finding one in any condition.

Put it in the subject line and post an ad in the used C4 parts section. They have all kinds of stuff for NCRS. I've even seen old water pumps go through there. Valuable and worth listing for the same reason.
IHBD talks about fixing them a lot, which I guess is popular with the NCRS crowd. Or, you can probably just use the housing for your purposes.

from one 85 owner to another, welcome to the forum. besides the correct part number, keep in mind when searching out an alternator, that the alternator's build date is an important judging factor. it should precede the build date of the car. listed on my door jamb sticker, my 85 has a build month/year of july 1985 - (i'm thinking it's toward the end of july, but I have never pinpointed my exact build date. i'm not into NCRS anymore, but as for originality, old habits are hard to break). my original alternator's build data is july 9th 1985. the alternator identification data is stamped on the top-front mounting ear and should read --
1105 585 120A
(date code) 12V NEG
on my original alternator, the date code is 7095, whereas 7= july, 09 = 9th day, and 5 for 1985. my back up (spare) alternator is 7085 or july 8th 1985.
finally, part number 1105585, 120A alternators for the 85's are one year only part. they are extremely hard to come by in decent and rebuildable condition - it took me years to find correctly dated assembly. lots of folks list 85 alternators, but without the correct stamping ID, it's just another 17SI. curious -- how did you determine that your 85 came with the 1105585 part? in 1985, three variants were used - p/n 1105585 (120 amp), 1105450 (108 amp), and 10479868 (120 amp), although the 10479868 may be the original service replacement. is "K09" or "K90" listed on your SPID or RPO sticker? K09 is the 120 amp, and K90, the 108 amp alternator.
here' a pic of my back-up/spare alternator during restoration/rebuild. note the ID info...
- again, welcome to the forum, and post some pics of your 85!
