My brakes are mushy. It doesn't stop all that well really and I REALLY have to push hard to lock up tires... It feels mushy even after bleeding the brakes properly. The brakes feel like they start to grab with very little pedal travel (I've heard this is how it should be), but they don't grab hard. I have to STAND on them to stop hard.
I think it is either the master cylinder or the brake booster. I say master cylinder because I had a friend help me bleed them earlier this year and I think he may have held the bleeder screw open too long and my pedal went down too far, screwing up the seals. Just a thought...
What do you all think? I want to take care of this, but I don't want to spend more money than I need to. Thanks,
The brakes should grab with little effort. You probably have a vacuum leak or your booster is leaking(vacuum) internally. You may hear a hiss if the booster is leaking. You could also check it with a hand pump.
