I have a 1990 convertible that has developed a service engine soon light issue. I have changed out the distributor, checked the timing and put all new spark plugs in it but it still has hesitation and poor acceleration and an intermittent service engine soon light that comes on. Any ideas on what to check next?

Check the fuel pressure, spark plug wires and scan the data from the ECM
After taking out my distributor I did not put the ICM wires all the way back on the module. It causes misfire and melted one of my wires and thru a code . check your codes for the first step
I agree with pulling the codes as the next (should be first) step.
thanks for the help! Just got home and disconnected the battery and then restarted the car. The light came back on and I did the code check and came up with h43. “Electronic spark control” any ideas on this. Already Changed plugs wires and distributor
funny you say that, initially it had the code for knock sensor and electronic spark. Now at idle so far only electronic spark is showing up. You think it worth just to replace the knock sensor?
