My water pump is what was causing my coolant leak - it needs replacement. What kind do you recommend? I don't really need hi flow, because my car is relatively stock. What brand gives me the best value/reliability? Where can I get it?
hi,also check out the airtex brand ,they make the pumps for gm and others and the price is right.check out any well stocked auto store to get one.greg84
hm...ecklers might have something. As it stands, I'd have to wait some weeks to get the Stewart from Ecklers, but I can get the factory water pump from Ecklers for $150 or so immediately. Is there any faster way to mail-order a stewart from somewhere?
Go to the catalog and then to coolant pumps. The street upgrade pump (ES Series) is $119, the bad mother (EP3111R) is $199. It has 1 3/4" ID inlets for better flow. My stock pump is 1 1/2" OD.
They have been around a while....and they claim to ALSO be the highest GPM, so who knows.
Dude, consider an electric replacement. It costs more but really works super. You will actually gain some hp from it too. The next time it need replacement you can do it in 15 minutes. Really! Great for racing.
Just checked my records, and discovered that I purchased a new water pump from Summit, Aug '98.
Part number for this Edelbrock pump is: EDL-8815...cost was $159.95 at the time. (You can option for the Polished Pump...P/N EDL-8825)
No problems, and I'm thinking at least 20K on the pump.
These pumps are for '84 to '92 Vettes only.
Not for LT-1 Corvettes.
Three features that I liked about this pump, are:
#1: Weight savings.
#2: There is a threaded tab for a cam stop, that can be used to pre-load the timing chain cover, and limit camshaft forward movement.
#3: 8815 is a 'reverse rotation' water pump, with serpentine belt drive.
My suggestion would be to look at those pumps whose features interest you most, and go with it. However, take the time to do your 'homework'. Water Pumps, should not be looked at as though they're all the same.

Re: Best water pump performance/value (ddsovy)
I went with the Stewart. They recommend using one their stats also. I suppose this is to allow some water to pass through to relieve static pressure buildup.
Considering how much of a nuisance the install is, get a quality pump with a warranty. Just say :nono: to rebuilt parts.
The only place the Flowkooler helps is from idle up to 3500 RPM. It says on the web site the flow is 2x "stock" from idle to 3500 RPM's then goes back to normal flow above that.
The Evans flows double the stock pump from idle to whatever your redline is. The Evans pumps flow all the way to 10,000 rpm (pump speed). I don't know about anyone else, but my car doesn't see the low side of 4500 RPM's for 90% of a 20 minute track session. That is where the difference shows up on whether a pump works well or not.
An additional item is that the Evans pumps inlets are 1/4" larger than the stock pumps @ 1 3/4" ID. Doesn't appear to be the same for the Flowkooler, but they don't give an ID of the inlet on their web site.
If all you want to do is cool the car down in street driving, then I would say the flowkooler is a good choice. If you plan on working that motor hard for extended periods of time, then it isn't a good choice.
The Evans is used by many NASCAR teams for their cars. They don't show which teams on the web site, but I found out a few from them when I talked to the tech line. If it can keep a 800+ HP NASCAR cool for 500 miles at WOT, it should be able to keep a C4 cool for 20 minute stints on a road course....
