I am currently in the process of building an exhaust to my liking and i'm wanting to replace the resonator with straight pipes. It's nothing final, I just want to make it easier to work with.
I see that the resonator necks down to fit into the pipes. What pipe size would I need in order for me to just be able to clamp it in place (like how the resonator sits now)?
Many suggest a true X-pipe in place of the stock resonator. I'd try this before just straight pipes. Research which X-pipe and size will work best for your Vette. You can commit and cut the resonator out and get an accurate measurement of the pipes. Then buy X-pipe or straight pipes an 1/8th or 1/4 inch larger to slip over (not into) the stock pipes. If you had access to a pro muffler pipe expanding machine/device, then you could use the same size pipe and expand the connecting edges to slip over.
do the basic Xpipe, I had straight pipes put in on my stock exhaust and it didn't sound good/right. Exhaust shopped put it back on the lift and installed an xpipe.
I had a 3" x-pipe installed in place of the original resonator back in 2012 or so. The guy who did it recommended it, and swelled it down to fit the 2-3/4" diameter factory pipes.
