The HVAC module on my ‘96 has been giving me problems for several years, but I was always able to get it to respond after pushing the buttons enough times, but no more. I can no longer get it to turn off, switch to auto, etc. So my question is, does anyone have a ballpark figure on what it might cost to have the unit replaced by a mechanic? I’m thinking of selling the car anyway, so I’ll need to decide if the cost of replacing the module is worth it. Any input would be appreciated.
On my '88 there are three dash pieces that need "moved", including the one covering the HVAC controller; then 4 screws and the electronic connection to remove the unit. I'd estimate it took 1/2-1hr.
I cleaned the connectors, reassembled it, and then all the controls worked well.
Hmmm, hadn’t thought about just cleaning the connectors, I was just assuming the electronics were hosed. What exactly did you do to clean them? Thanks for that suggestion and the video.

Thanks for the info. I had it pictured as a much larger job.

+2, I used the same procedure on my 96 control head and everything works great....for a year now.
Does it change over the years or will any other unit from a C4 that looks similar fit?
On the "later years" the units are the same but the type face and color changed. If memory serves, the 90-92 are orange type and the 93-96 are white. The mechanics are the same.

I'd see if you can borrow one from somebody who has one to test.
