hi everyone i am a brand new member on corvette forum and was hoping someone could give me some tips on the knocking & pinging on my 89 vette. i replaced the pcv valve and the car has recently had a tune up. i have even tried fuel additives. could the problem be my injectors?? this seems to happen at mid to full throttle. any suggestions would be helpful. thanks. rick
Welcome to the forum! You mentioned it was just tuned - do you know if the timing is properly set? Have that checked out first before putting anymore "magic" in a bottle in your tank. You did not mention if you just bought the car - has it been doing this lately? What octane are your using? BTW there is a wealth of knowledge on this board and many tips and suggestions will follow. Good luck!
thanks for your advice. i have had the car for four years now but just recently moved to sacramento ca which gets very hot in the summer. this seems to be when all my problems started. i use super unleaded premium. i will definitely check on the timing and thanks again!!!!!
I would check the timing. Once I got my motor running a friend set my timinig to 6.5 initial. Drove for a week...a ping long...We then reset to 5.75 which made a world of difference. For my motor, more initial advance made the car idle better, but HURT the top end.
Secondly I out the fuel pump, our 10year-old cars could use a little freshing up.
