Knocking Sound
When I had my car up on the rack getting some exhaust work done, I noticed a slight knock coming from my oil pan. It's so slight that I can't hear it unless I'm directly underneath it.
I'm worried that it may be a bearing, but it may also just be a loose timing chain as well. If it's so slight, do you think it may just be a worn bearing creating a constant knock? I know I can simply open up the oil pan to see how it looks, but I won't have access to do so for a couple of weeks unfortunately.
Since it's up on a rack and I can only hear it if I'm underneath it, I don't know if it increases with acceleration or not. I don't burn any oil at all, and my oil right now looks as clean at 2000 miles as it did when I put it in. Oil pressure averages around 60-65 psi.
What are some things I need to look for when I open up the oil pan, aside from checking for slack in the timing chain and some metal shavings? And is there anything I can do in the meantime to be a little more sure of what's going on? It's an 88 coupe with 104k miles on it. I'm not sure of the maintenance history prior to about two months ago.
Thanks much.
