Disconnected broken AIR pump, getting Code 26
The A.I.R. pump in my 92 LT1 coupe died (I didn't get any codes, I just noticed that car was nicely quiet when I started it up in the morning). I took it to the shop, but after a couple of days they said the part is backordered, with no estimate from GM on when they would be available. They gave me the car back with the pump disconnected. Unfortunately, because it's disconnected, I'm now getting the SES light, and a Code 26. Should I just live with the light, reconnect the AIR pump, or is there an easy way to fool the engine into thinking the pump is connected?

I wonder about the operation of the AIR pump as well.
I would rather remove it for weight considerations, but don't want to damage my cats. I do plan to add LT1 Edit and turn it off so no code will set, but still unsure of the side effects.

The air pump with the diverter valve sends air to the cats via the exhaust manifolds to heat them up quicker (for emissions). It shouldn't hurt to drive around like that but if it was my car, I'd let it go closed loop before driving. The pump shuts off after a max of 4 minutes or when the 02 goes closed loop on start up.

When I first bought my car, someone had disconnected the air pump in the harness. I was always getting this SES light after a couple minutes of driving and it would go out after say 30 seconds or less. Well, I got a code scanner (expensive paperclip) and found out where to look at. Well, there is was disconnected. Plugged it in and no more codes....not sure why it wasn't plugged in. Somebody probably heard they could gain HP by disconnecting it. :seeya
