Default EST Connector

Hello All,

I know this is a tired question, but I cannot locate the EST connector for the life of me. This is the second Saturday of hunting with the Maglite for the connector in and around the break booster.

My VEC label indicates a Tan wire/black stripe single connector but there is no such animal in view.

Can anyone give me a start from or end up location for this wire to track back from or some other hint?

This is my first Vette and I have had it 2 months. I do see some "butt splices" in and around the distributor and an EST style connector on the passenger side that does not look like it belongs there, but it has a green wire our one side and a black out the other.

This thing is knocking pretty bad and I need to check the timing! Help!

Thanks All

Bob,

I've had my '86 a few months more than you, but I had to ask the previous owner when I couldn't find the right connection! I just looked - it's the only connector to the left of the brake booster - tan or pink wire with black stripe, in and out of the connector. Looks like it has nothing to do with the distributor!

Good luck, welcome to the forum, park and drive VERY carefully, and remember to :seeya to all those other Vettes in Texas.

If you follow that Grn wire I believe it goes to the EGR Temp sensor atop the EGR tube.

Look to the right of the brake booster; there should be a Blk/Tan wire comming out of the large wire harness near the firewall. The EST connector is in that short section of wire.

Had a L98 distributor apart couple weeks ago looking for some wire problems.

Assuming you have a stock distributor, there is a 4 pin connector coming out of the distributor and should connect from the distributor to a wire loom. If you have the stock connector, wipe off all the grease and oil and see if there isn't some lettering on the connector. It should say A B C D one side. The stock distributor I had, well, the lettering was weak but there.

Assuming the 4 pin connector is labeled ABCD, the C pin cavity should be the tan/blk wire mentioned in earlier posts. This wire should exit the loom somewhere along the route and the connector's located around the booster. This wire goes to the ECM and will cary the bypass signal to the EST module, 7 pin thing under the cap. When this wire is disconnected, the module will not be getting the signal for timing advance and you will be able to set base timing. Sounds like someone has modified or moved the wire loom.

Good luck and let me know if you need any more help. Do you have the factory service manaul? Can send you in the general direction for a schematic. I'm a bad tiper.
