Default Canton Dipstick reading (Part 2)

Well I changed the oil today. I had decided that I was going to do something so I could get a reading on my stock dipstick using 7 qts of oil instead of 8 qts. I had e-mailed Canton and they suggested possibly cutting the dipstick tube shorter at the top. Thinking I only needed about a 1/4" to a 1/2" to get some kind of reading on the dipstick, I decided to first check the tube at the block to make sure it was seated as we had pulled it out recently before I got the new pan. Guess what? It wasn't! It was in the block, but there was about 3/8" before it was seated. I loosened the nut on the exhaust manifold that holds the tube in place and wiggled it around till it was seated properly. Now with exactly 7qts, it reads on the stock dipstick just below the A on the ADD mark. That gives me enough play to burn a little but also enough info that if it doesn't show, it's about 1 qt low. So for those that were having similar problems, you might want to check and make sure your dipstick tube is seated at the block first. :yesnod:

Oh, and on a second note, some were saying they where having problems with their Canton RR pan leaking. I'm glad to say that I found no leaks what so ever after about 2000 miles. :)
