1986 Convertible behind the radio. This worries me since it looks like an important connection with beefy wires. It must have been like this since I owned the car.

Looks like it's for a blower motor switch.

Wow -- No DL8 but I have an updated soft-top with glass window and I have been wondering how to get the defroster working ... so it looks like I have some of the wireing there. Thanks

There's a correct control presently on eBay that you can confirm 'visually' where it's used with C60 and I doubt much of an effort to be creative enough to make functional the 'DEFOG' most anyway you'd like to use it.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1985-C4-CORVETTE-C60-MANUAL-HVAC-CONTROL-HEAD-VERY-GOOD-CONDITION-16040111/263821248599?hash=item3d6cf8c857:g:XycAA OSwHNxaKFKJ:rk:3:pf:0&vxp=mtr

C60 with C49 (DEFOG) Control the same for through '89 GM# 16040111

Check your FSM looking for C211 (I'd think likely a 4 wire) There's no image of it in the '86 FSM but that's what I'd think the FSM likely references.

*****I'd think DEFOG CIRCUIT BREAKER missing also. See wiring diagrams related to POWER DISTRIBUTION, DEFOG ETC. 8A-61-0 should be appropriate

I like this solution and even made a bid on it but realized later that the defogger switch goes where the "Indianapolis 500" badge goes. So I'm going to have to figure something else out. I also found the defogger relay on ebay for $10. So now I have to do some investigation on whether wires were run back or if those were deleted as well.

Thanks,
Robert

I didn't intend for you to buy but only used it as a reference to what IHBD mentioned AND to also direct you to the correct wiring diagrams for the '86. I believe all you need to concentrate on is the wire population @ C211, is there a circuit breaker in the fuse box. If not you could use a jumper and then check the ORN @ the connector for voltage. There's many after-market options for defogger control that you could use to make 'defogger' operational. I don't believe I'd be doing any eBay shopping yet.

Put your hands on the C211 - it would have likely ORN for release relays & PPL that would have been for C49 if a coupe. See FUSE BLOCK DETAILS in 8A

** However you determine to control the C49 (DEFOG) make sure you use an appropriate 'timer' and I'd think a switch with an LED so that you can monitor the effective timing.

I didn't think I had anything to offer for the OP, because he has a convertible. Now I see this connector, the wire colors, wire sizes, and pin assignments are the SAME as the rear defogger control connector in my '84! So this convertible had/should have a rear window defogger?? Or is this just superfluous unused wiring? Another question: Why do I see oxidation in that connector, pin A?

Rharker, I sure love your avatar!

Sorry, Dogs, but I can't buy that, unless you can show me that every terminal in the car that's had 12 v. on it when the car is running is also oxidized. Is this car in the Florida Keys or a "flood car"? I'll dismiss this as an anomaly.

Can't. But if you're right, rharker's fuse panel must be a mess!

Rharker, do you have a 30 A. fuse installed at the DEFOG location? If you install a fuse there, do you have 12 v. on the orange wire of that connector at all times?

I'd like to think that the OP does NOT have a '30A -Circuit Breaker' upper right corner of his fuse box' - Your '84 I believe is 'fused' vs a BRKR - for the OP a GM# 14103366 or equivalent would be a correct 30A -BRKR.

*** GM# 14103366 is correct

I get in trouble when I speculate on later 'vette's. Since the defog control connector is apparently the same as my '84, and things didn't change radically by '86, I took a guess that the fuse panel might be the same, but of course, that's only an uneducated guess! Didn't mean to mislead anyone.

Here's the fuse panel layout for my '84:

It's not at all 'odd' to have unused option connectors included in production. An IP harness for C60 & options and another for C68. Another example that's stumbled upon often is the '90 ZR-1 'VALET' switch connector is included with all '90 IP harnesses C60 or C68 even base Y07/Y67.

I also 'doubt' used to cover the hole thoughts. It is though appropriately 'sized'! There's a control for all C60 (w/o C49) used '85 through '88. Z6A (defogger option Y07/coupe) looks to have been an option in '88 still and available to be added to orders.
