What year is the car? On the 94-96, you have to remove the passenger airbag, as well as the top dash cover and a bunch of other stuff. It was not fun. It took me about a year, but then again, I did the headers, exhaust, 12 hoses, blower pulley, radiator, halfshafts, halfshaft safety loops, stereo, repaired a/c control head, and installed the intercooler, water tank, pump, heat exchanger, fans, wiring, switches, hoses, and gauge for the water to air intercooler setup at the same time...so the heater core probably only took 6 months of that
My first 1995 coupe got a new heater core, about $550 out the door (parts and labor and tax, etc). Had it done at my friend's shop so yes I got the "friend" discount, plus his mechanics have some magical voodoo going on... they are extremely good. Sacramento, CA
I did my 95 convertible in the summer of '17, I also replaced the polarized film on my digital dash readout since the dash pad was off. Took me less than 8 hours to do Everything. It wasn't horrible. I did the core ona 99 F150 that was much worse to me. Just take your time and be methodical.
