Default 93 seat belts ( Question )

Its a wife deal ( My seat belt is not working ) Dose anybody know if the shoulder belts lock on impact on my 93 . I know on some of my Corvette you can pull the shoulder belt real fast and they will lock in place , not these .. She said its broken and she is not riding in the thing till its fixed .. You know what I'm thinking can't say it out loud she might read this .. Thanks

I know on my 93 it free Wheels in normal use and can be a PITA and lock on hard Braking But that's it's Job. So just as a Test try giving it a tug while hard braking on a bumpy road see if it locks. if not look into it.

Do you have an owners manual? For a '93 the Owners Manual is a 'freebie' from GM. Operation is explained quite well.I watched a fellow in the mid 80's take a fellow's wife through the parking lot and slam on the brakes to show how the retractor pendulum operates. FSM also briefly describes operation.

Here is the deal after 4/Hr. of research . In 93 had recall on the 93 seat belts ,the shoulder belt should lock when pulled fast bam lock them release when the pressure is released . I guess this 93 missed the fix.. O-well ,Seatbelt Solutions has the fix ,they have built a direct bolt on and the lock works just a light tug and bam lock . The 93 has No air bag on the pass side so need a little help in the safety dep. at lest a seat belt that works a little better that nothing I guess so the wife has over the years lesion to me and knows a little something about the Corvettes well seat belts anyway and I have to say she was right : My seat belt not working right .. so ID card ( not a big fan but cheap ) so $280.00 shipped to Houston TX. Part #COR8496C-1000 for black . Be here in 3-days .. Just an FYI..

On the way home I tested for the quick tug Lock, nope didn't work so after reading your research I guess if there was Recall my car missed it . But works as designed for 1993.

Below link is a really good explanation of how the different types of seatbelts work. Many people think all seatbelts should lock when you pull hard on them, but this is not the case. Different manufacturers chose different ways to lock belts throughout the years, and most countries have mandated rules that say which type a car has to have. Most have updated to the kind that can lock when you pull on the belt and not the inertia type our early C4s came with. The main reason for abandoning this type is that many will not lock in a rollover, or at least are ineffectual most of the time,

Good info here:

That's my deal and if that don't work , bubble wrap suit .. Thanks for the input..

My 93 vert has a button with CINCH written on it in orange font matching the dAsh.

this button is on the cover that the seat belt retracts into

Ok spent 4 Hrs. on the seatbelts reading and looking up what they should be going if the Corvette makes a sudden stop , well what really happens if you make sudden forward movement with your body or your shoulders the shoulder strap should lock holding your shoulders back in the seat .. . The shoulder belt should lock if it does not lock after giving it a fast snap its not working right . All these C-4 should work the same .. So get one that works it may save you behind.. I don't have to read the Service manual to know that .. now that's just on these C-4s not all cars work the same .. But I do have 4-cars in the drive and 4-5 in my shop and I tried them all out and seamed to me they all work the same ,fast snap and the belt locked .. Do your own test ..
