I have this annoying squeak in my car, and i cant figure out what it is. Seems to be coming from the front right of my car, when i am driving. Its not a squeal like a brake squeal, it sounds more hollow almost like something wobbling. I thought at first it was from braking but then i realized that it does it when not braking too, maybe when going over bumps??? Just wondering since we all have the same rides maybe someone else has had this rattle too and could save me the $$$ of having it sent in and looked at.
I recently developed the same problem, I think. Mine is on the front driver side though. It's almost like a supermarket shopping cart squeaky wheel kinda squeak.
I haven't yet looked into what it is (too many other nagging things I'm working on with it), but I'll let you know when I figure it out. Keep us updated.
Could it be a lower shock bushing or sway bar bushing? :seeya
Try some spray lubricant. Spray on one bushing, go for a drive. If the noise is still there, go to another, go for a drive etc. Might not find the problem, but you have eliminated the bushings as the culprit.
As already mentioned sway bar bushings will squeak usually over bumps and especially over speed bumps. I had a squeak in the front that turned out to be the hood latches. When the boby flexed the pins were squeaking back and forth-made me crazy till I found it.
My 85 had the same symtoms and it turned out to be the spring pads got dry and the spring was causing the squeaks. Jacked the front of the car and sprayed the outer spring pads with white lithium grease. The squeak went away.
I have a rattle that occurs over slightly big bumps fron the right side of the car. i have had it for 6 years and ive done everything to try and figure it out. it seems to be coming from the roof/windshield area but sometimes it sounds like from the base of the windshield pillar. i removed every panel along the windshield, still there. Tightened the roof properly and tried a new one.. still there. Tore apart the dash (removign it completely) and tightened every nut i could see.. still there. With the camber brace however the squeaking was almost gone, and the rattle was slightly less. I think perhaps it is the windshield, or in the windshield frame somewhere. or even in the hood latches. It is the ONLY thing that makes me :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad about my car. I feel embarassed when theres others in the car. im going to buy that stethoscope and make my gf listen to see where its comign from. Any ideas would be appreciated here as well
this may be over-simplistic, but you have also described the noise you get when the break wear indicators start contacting the rotor(s)
hollow almost tinny sound, and or sounds like something is wobbling and rubbing against a small thin peice of metal ( which it is )
could be wrong, but that is also what the wear indictors sound like

hey solid roller, try this and see if it helps, it seemed to fix my squeak:
Go put your car on a flat surface and open the hood, then drop it closed from about 3 or 4 inches up. Then press down firmly a few times with both hands on the front corner of your hood (where the latch would be) and see if makes the same squeaking sound, mine did. Then i just adjusted that rubber stopper on that side of the hood and greased the spring and the latch area real good and it hasnt squeaked since. Although it may be beside the point that both of my hood latches were filled to the top with water...............
yeah i want to drill those latches on the bottom so i can drain the water. Anyhow... i always thought the squeak came from the roof. I adjusted the hood a million times but never realized that rubber will squeak no matter how good the fitting is.. hmmmm im gonna go do it now. And the rattle is a rattle... im sure... maybe that has something to do with the latches too........ here i go again.... :smash:
