my "estimated fuel econ" or " distance to empty" milage indicator has taken a turn for the worse.
when i got the car it had it's share of problems that i knew about and had repaired: leaking intake, collapsed radiator, broken tie-rod, bad ball joints, ecm, o2's, etc.
when i got the car in june of '02 i would fill the tank and it would indicate 499 miles or more. now, when ever i fill it averages around 460 or less. sometimes around 430 miles.
anybody else have similar situation? if not where do i aim the bullet?
LOL, I have the same prob. Whenever I fil up now I get like maybe 410. When I had the 2.59's inI was gettin 499 on a full tank. My 3.54's are chewin up my gas
i'm running with the stock gear equipment - 3.07 i belive. the one thing i'm not 100% about is weather or not the previous owner tinkered with something or not. i do believe he upsized the tires but my dealer mech would have mentioned something about that. wheel size is correct - 8.5 and 9.5's. the only thing i can think is to get a new chip for the ecm.
the car runs beautifly at road america when i have it on the track to wher i can expect crappy milage at 100 mph. but it's the regular hwy crap that chafe's my behind! :nonod:
Well you've replaced the 02's, but I'd still monitor block learn to see if you're running rich & to make sure it's staying in closed loop. Check the throttle body too. If it's dirty, that might be the culprit.
Could it be that your right foot has gotten a little heavier??
The only reliable way to check mileage is with a trip on the open road (interstate) with cruise set for an hour or more each way. For repeatability it needs to be the same section of highway. Reset your average mileage after you lock cruise and check it just before you exit to turn around for the return trip.
I'm sure your driving style has changed since you got your new Vette, especially as you progressed with each fix-up project completion. You might be surprised how fast your average trip mileage of 31-32mpg drops after just a few hard launches on city streets.
my foot has definately gotten heavier on the track :D .
but since i only do that very sparingly, 95 % of my driving is interstate. average of 100 miles in one direction. on a good weekend i will do 3 - 400 miles. i pretty much roll with the cruise on at 70 mph with all the state troopers around. (thankfully i knbow where they sit). my aveage per gallon when i do the math at fill is 24 - 27 per gallon. hell of a lot better than my my '99 yukon at 12 mpg. the thing that bugs me when i fill is the DTE is always indicating less and less.
The range is calculated on your average MPG. If you reset both of them when you get gas, they will both be zero, and that's a lot less than 499. And as you leave the gas station and your average MPG gets to say 5 MPG as you leave the gas station, your range might go to 180 miles. As your average MPG increases, so will your range. IF you don't reset your average MPG when you refill your tank and you had something, like say 24 MPG, then when you refill, your range will immediately say something really high, like 499 miles.

this may be a good time to do it as my car has been in the shop for the past three weeks with the battery disconnected for most of the time. i heard this may also be a way to reset most things.
Hey Bud ... this is one of your neighbours to the north!!!! You should be happy with an average miles per tank of 450!!!!
Filled up my tank the other morning and after reading this thread decided to lok at my readout!!!!
Average city driving .... 13.8 MPG and average reading on full tank .... a womping 280 miles!!!!
Going to reset mine too as it hasn't been reset for awhile!!!!
the true test begins tomorrow night after i pick up the car from the shop. i''m gonna fill 'er up and drive 100 miles. fill it back up and come back. and fill it up again. then i'll find somebody who knows how to work an abicus or dust off one of those texas instruments calculators and crunch some numbers.
or maybe ill just change my personalized plates to something more appropriate. how does "valdeez" sound?
