I'll ry to make this as short as possible...An internal combustion engine needs valves to allow the fuel/air mixture into the combustion chamber and to allow the spent gasses out.
Four valves do that better than two. In addition, since overhead cam actuated valves have fewer moving parts (no rocker arms, pushrods or lifters), there is less weight to deal with ..ergo an inherently more stable valve train that's less prone to floating (losing contact between the parts). therefore it's a higher reving valve train. The ZR1 isn't a DOHV because it's fancy. It gets more power, higher revs and allows more agressive valve timing. Our motors are pushrod actuated primarily because it's been the Chevy small block way for fourty+ years. :D
