The 94 I recently purchased apparently has a 93 (or maybe early 94?) air filter lid, with the 2 large humps that let air flow in from the sides. But when you take it off and look at it, you see that the air only flows through and sees the filter in a much smaller rectangle in the center, as in most of the filter surface won't even see the airflow (or get dirty). Should I just cut out the humps and lid surface, like the open "frame" type lids?
You can cut the current air filter lid or buy a replacement "open air lid" from one of the accessory supporting vendors and keep the OEM lid. You won't see a lot of power improvement and with the filter out in the open, it could get dirtier more quickly.

I get asked this from customers from time to time and like I tell them they will not feel any significant improvement in the seat of their pants when driving it so why pay me to mess with it.
Wow...that is pretty good. I have had cars on a chassis dyno and when they are done being tuned... the slight improvement ...lets say 20 HP ...for me is not even detectable. All I feel that there may be a little something there that was not there from before.....if that.
I guess I do not have that ability to feel a 20 HP gain. And what is funny is how back in the day when installing different stage computer chips. When on a dyno and tested I have seen the HP actually drop but the car feels like you are getting more out of it.
