Im sure a few of you guys remember a couple weeks back when i was asking questions about replacing the digi tach from an 86 into an 88 cluster.. Well the 86 part came in the mail today, an quickly got to work on the transplant. Everything went well, plug everything back in, an the numbers are all screwed up. With key turned to acessory, the digital number reads 12rpms but the number 1 is only half there, the bottom half if you can picture it. I have taken it apart, an careful reassembled it atleast 15 times now, It still does the same thing every time. Is there anything i might be missing? Scorp, i know your on ball, any ideas?! I hope this will work, if not, guys, i have a digi tach out of an 86 for sale heh :)
Try cleaning the black areas on the pads with alchohol. Do the same to the contact areas on the lense and also on the board. Inspect everything to make sure you don't have any breaks, tears or cracks. If it still doesn't work, I would say you have a bad lense.

I will certainly try that.. I wiped down the contacts when i was putting it together, but did not use alcohol. I will give that a shot and keep you posted.. Thanx
I see you finally have had time to work on it. I dunno know what to tell you as far as the number thing goes. I took it out of the car about 2 months and it worked then. Since it has been sitting on my desk. I really hope you get this figured out. Check the pink things(?) and make sure that one did not get torn away from the glass at some point.

Two of the pink thingys fell off the tach.. i just put them in place.. do they need to be connected somehow? is there a glue or something? when i removed the old one, three of them were not connected, but to, the tach had been punched by previous owner, an did not work.. Anyway.. thanx for help.. going to try cleaning everything with alcohol, an maybe that will work.. :)
The pink pads will stick over time due to heat. No type of connector, no glue. Just make sure everything's cleaned up when you reassemble. The pressure of the pads sandwiched between the lense and board insures contact.
