Default Booster followup Vol.3

The new , improved steel booster has been on the 96 for less than 3 weeks and is showing surface rust. WTF! How do you think it will look in a year? I had planed to insulate the booster with 10mm reflective foam, but there is NO way with the unit mounted in place. Also, I measured only 2 inches of clearance from the rear header pipe to the bottom of the booster. Now this did not cause failure in 3 or 12 miles but long term it can't be good. so.... insulate and rust proof prior to install. last but not least, it seems that I am being stonewalled on a credit of $1,351. Monday AM i'll be on the phone busting ***** about the rust and my credit. Stay tuned for the rest of the story.

Not trying to be a smartarse, but all uncoated mild steel boosters will rust. Even the ones that look golden like they have some sort of zinc coating... they rust, too.

I dust bare metal with a metal primer and high temp black whenever I can.

I've got little over 2" clearance between my booster and header pipe and my header has been red hot. My car is has had one booster replacement in 35 years. I wouldn't worry about the heat damaging the booster. You can easily stick reflective heat tape on the underside if you are concerned. Sounds like it's time to call your president friend for your refund. What do you want them to do about your surface rust. As mentioned above, its easy to deal with.

I never saw the 5th replacement prior to install. the 84 steel booster that failed in 12 miles was painted black. I feel the "NEW improved" unit should at least be painted also. my ace in the hole NAPA president will be a call of last resort. that call could happen this week. the $1,351.00 credit is LESS than half of my true cost.

At this point I'm beginning to wonder if you'll ever be happy with your brake booster

Why should it take 5 boosters to get one that "might " work ? how many Barret -Jackson quality Corvettes have a rusty tin can under the hood ? The fifth booster was sent direct from A1 Cardones R&D facility to my mechanic in exchange for 2 defective units. THEN I had to pay him $300 to do the install. When I called the Cardone sales mgr this AM I was told the stack of bills I sent them was "under review" by their technical service mgr. For 3 weeks now ! 1337 do you think ANY of the above should make me happy ? When and IF I get the $1351.00 credit it will still be less than HALF of my true expense. Do you think that will make me happy ? Do you think not having the use of my car for months makes me happy ? Do you think a brake failure in the Rockies, 1500 miles from home made me happy ? NOTHING about ANY of this has ,or will make me happy. ( thanks for the Vent , I'm just about to Postal over the issue johnO )

I don't believe having your booster fail in the middle of the Rockies would make you happy, nor should any of the above.

That being said I am eagerly awaiting Booster Followup Vol 4.

thanks, MR Viking (I think) I hope that all the members of this forum realize the fight I have had with A1 Cordone will benefit EVERY C4 owner , I FORCED them to admit that that the plastic reman boosters were CRAP ! as a consequence , Cardone did a "redesign" booster. Now. if they just remember to paint the part it will progress. I'll take that gold star now, LOL

A-1 Cardone has not paid jack . they picked up 2 defective units and gave me 1. That unit I had to pay to be installed, that being #5 . Now the A1-Cardone sales mgr. will NOT return my calls. He knows the question is : when and how will my refund be paid ? i'll give them 1 more day. Monday early AM I will call the NAPA President and tell him the rest of the story. He will not be happy, having told me the whole situation was NOT ACEPTABLE 2 months ago. I will keep tilting at windmills for all of us. johnO

Looks like I am screwed .According to the Cardone sales mgr, the steel 84 unit that failed is not the unit called out for my 96 and they are not obligated to pay for it. as if I didn't know , told him there was no way in HELL I was going to put a forth plastic booster on the car. his response was "Well I can understand that" NO SH////T. I told him (sales mgr.) he has the power to make this preposterous situation right and that the ball in his court. . will get the final answer to my claims Tue. PM
