What does the tps have to read in order to go into open loop?? I am adjusting the gas pedal because the throttle plates weren't opening all the way, only about half. And in doing this, i have to reset the tps, and the tv cable properly.
It depends on the year. In my 87's computer the value is 69% throttle. 5v being the reference signal the ECM would have to see 3.45v to go into power enrichment mode (WOT).
Thanks Scorp, the year model is '85. The starting point is .58, and i don't have anyone available right now to mash the gas for me while i check voltage sweep. I will have to wait until later this evening to check it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you operate the throttle from under the hood with the multimeter hooked up? That's how I did mine, worked for me so far :)
You can, but it can also be a little misleading. The throttle bodies are open about 100% and there is still a good 1/4" you can physically move the butterflies to be "more than open". Its best to test with someone mashing the pedal inside. :)
Yeah, what he said. I screwed up when i just bought the car and i was trying to set everything up, (tv, tps, iac) I did the adjustments under the hood by actuating the throttle body, but later found out that it was a little off. So, had to enlist a friend to help me adjust everything. Everything about this car has been a learning experince for me. And also a test of how much poopie it can give me before i snap!!
Pardon me if I'm wrong but you said to go into CLOSED loop. It will go into closed loop at idle if the engine is warm enough. The closed throttle reading shown were fine and that's all you need to read ......... the gas pedal shouldn't affect this unless it's bound up. The only reason to do a sweep with the DVOM is to verify thatthe TPS is ok and it's very hard to see unless you have a helluva DVOM or maybe a lab scope. It goes open above like 4,65 volts or so and that's because we don't want the O2 sensors controlling the AF ratio at WOT. above these readings the TPS goes into "dead band" and that tells the processor to set a code for a circuit or sensor problem...........OK? .......hope that helps :seeya

Roger, will have to pay closer attention next time I'm under there.
Thanks for the info, and sorry for the initial mistake. I meant open loop! My pedal was bent, fatigue over time is my guess. OK, so at 4.65 volts it goes into 'power enrichment' i think its called(when it doesn't use the O2). Thats the info I was looking for!
