My AIR pump is now making a lot of noise and the service engine soon light is now on. The car now has just over 100,000 miles. How can I test it to know if it needs replacing? Can it be repaired? Where can I purchase one at reasonable cost? GM Canada wants $296.
Thanks for your help.
You might try getting a low mileage used one at a salvage yard such as Taber Corvette parts in Indiana at http://www.tabercorvetteparts.com or an eliminator kit from Mid America or Corvette Central. There are several different part numbers for the L98, so make sure you get the right one.
That I don't know. I just know that when I paid the outrageous price that you quoted from GM new (actually I got mine a little cheaper through our company fleet account at $216) my parts guy said that there were several part #'s. This came up because I had my eye on a '91 at the salvage yard that had an air pump but I was told that '91 used a different part number. If I remember correctly, though it did have a part number on the case. You might have to remove it to see it, but it only takes 5 minutes to remove.
