Damn Idle!
My car just recently started idleing about 400-500 rpms higher. I have replaced the Throttle Position Switch and that worked for a little while, but it has started to idle high again. Does anyone have suggestions?
Is it sticking?........ maybe if you tap the throttle it will go back down...... if it does then the throttle body is maybe dirty or the shaft bushing area is worn. An additional spring seems to help for a while but it's only a bandaid not a cure :seeya
How about a sudden vacuum leak?........have you or anyone else been messing with anything that may have come loose or fallen apart?....... PCV comes to mind.......... I think it would be a large hose if that were it..... I would STILL like to look inthe throttle body and check for a carbon buildup..... can you FORCEthe throttle closed and slow it down?..........
I'm gettin ready to leave the forum for the weekend (teachers Quit at 3) so I won't be able to help ya much 'till monday......... hope ya get it :seeya
Have you set your minimum air adjusting screw? Mine would do this and it seems that if the minimum air adjustment is too high the IAC can't do its job to control the idle because even if it closes all the way, if the minimum air is set too high, your idle will be too high and there's nothing the IAC can do to bring it down.

Vetmech, I checked for Vacuum leaks and did not find anything.
Did you double check the settings on the TPS, it may have moved out of position. Also, when you replaced the TPS did you use a GM part or one from Autozone or wherever else? I have heard that those cheaper ones tend to go bad pretty quickly.
When I replaced TPS on my '95 I pulled the battery terminals to reset the ECM and initiate a re-learn before I drove it on the new TPS. I felt it a good idea to let the ECM start fresh with the newly established voltage range on the TPS. You might try this, can't hurt. Also, dumb question, but OEM style fixed position TPS or adjustible slotted screw holes type? I used the slotted adjustible type (same price as OEM) and you have to firm up the torx bolts pretty good or it wants to move around.
