Hey guys.. I have a quick question about the open/closed loop on my car. Im not positive where i heard this before, but someone told me the crossfires stay in closed loop up until the engine temperature reaches 195 degrees.. If this is true, my car only goes into open loop like three times a year. My car never gets that hot. Is this statement true? Now that im thinking of it, National Cylinder Head Exchange (Engine specialist's) told me that. I was in there having parts for my truck cleaned up, and asked a question somewhere along those lines. There are a few things that determine when the engine goes to closed loop.One is temp.There is a sendor on the front of the passenger head.It can be purchased at various temp ranges.Mine switches at 137 degrees.
On my car I can feel it go to closed loop.I dont know if thats normal,but I can feel it.It feels like the engine died for a second.It happens after the car has run about a half mile.
I just observed the open- closed loop on my CF it has a 160 stat and Hyperwreck chip. I started the car in the shop and the idle was 600 rpm when the temp hit 170 the idle whent up to 800 rpm. I assumed at 170 the loop closed and added some timing advance from the ecm. The car is an automatic and was in park. Just an observation I could be wrong. 84 CF 91 ZR-1
very interesting.. i guess i could fire up my car an let it idle until i see a surge in the idle.. it usually sits at 600 rpm at idle... never have seen it different, unless its real cold out (lol like 50 degrees real cold :) ) Thanx guys. i keep checking into it.

Actually they have it backwards. The engine runs in open loop until reaching a preset temp around 170*. The ecm gets this temp from the cts. Above that temp the ecm is in closed loop.
In open loop the ecm has preset fuel/ignition management untill the engine temp and O2 reaches operating temperature. After going closed loop the A/F is controlled by the O2 sensor.
