I want to remove the steering wheel and air bag on my ‘91 and put an older model wheel without an air bag on it. The car is more show than go so I’m not concerned about safety or vehicle inspections. I simply want to know if the steering columns are the same design. The wheel I want to use is off my ‘85, which has custom wheel on it.
the column is different due to the "clock spring" which adds to length above pivot. It's also designed for a different dash and turn signal arm location is raised compared to <89 columns. The air bag connector or clock spring will have to be removed unless there is a hole in " new" steering wheel for it slide through. The connector could be left disconnected. I would also disconnect yellow SIR connector at base of column.

I used www.redlinegoods.com to make a new cover for my 91. They actually used my car's wheel to make the pattern and also used it in their advertising. Looks pretty good to me.
I would like a non-airbag wheel myself, mostly because I have not been successful in finding a paddle shifter setup for a 96 Vette yet. Non airbag wheels yes, airbag 96 Vette wheel, no.
This is on my 1990 ZR-1, I had this aircraft style made on a water jet 1/4 aluminum, stock diameter, handles are from an knife company, red buttons are for the horn.
steering adapter is from sparco with a spacer to get steering wheel set for comfort. I donot autocross or track my car. Some drag racing and just cruising on goood days.
