It is in the plug to the relay....I messed with the wires and it stopped. so simple...makes me fel like an idiot.
I am in debt to you for all of your help and i have no idea how i can repay you for the time you spent trying to help me. Thank You doesn't not say how grateful I am . To stay on here to help someone you don't know makes you a rare and special person.
I realize you're working with a wiring harness that's been burned, but you'll have to sort out that wiring. I'm sorry, but I'm not psychic for that issue. Your description of the problem in post #20 doesn't make sense.
sooooo......after i got it to shut off it would come on with the key on. so with the help of your diagram i started checking things...i unplugged the fan sensor switch and it turned off. I replaced it and the fan wouldnt come on then i messed with the relay plug again and it stays on with the key off again. (crazy thing) four prong plug
also... I tried unplugging the ac compressor...all three uf the connections

Okay, after your foray into 6 year old posts, let's try this again.
In posts #22 and #24 above, you should have learned that bad wiring is not reliable. You have said several times that you "messed with" the relay connector, and the fan either would work, or would quit. You need RELIABLE wiring of that connector. If you can't do reliable wiring, get some help. Otherwise, you'll be fighting this forever! I hate to be blunt, but I must be honest.
Please tell me the part number of the CTS (coolant temperature switch) that you installed in the RH head, between plugs 6 & 8.
i keep trying to read all these different posts about cooling fans, from what i gather on older pre 90 models there is a relay on the firewall where on my 91 there is 2 relays down on the driver side radiator shroud, also the sensors are in different spots on my 91, from what i understand after reading all the different posts from over the years, a 91 model l98, should have the temp sending unit for the dash gauge on the drivers side between 6-8 plugs.. which i have but the wire connector is broken and rigged .. easy fix for me.. the temp sending unit to control my fan on a 91 is supposed to be on the drivers side between 1-3. which it seems the original owner relocated to the aluminum intake when they put the carb/intake combo. but that is also an easy fix for me really, then. i have the ac compressor switch which makes the second fan come on as soon as a/c is turned on. i am going to attempt to make the fans work properly using factory ecm and everything before i look for an after market fan control unit. if i have all new sensors and relays it should work properly. next thing i see is people saying that you must use the gm delco sensors or the system doesn't work correctly, so can anyone give me proper part numbers for each sensor i need and relays also? again this is for a 91 model.

Bud, this whole thread has been about the '84. Your '91 is a whole 'nuther animal. Please don't foul up the picture with a totally different problem!!! Please start a new post. You're just messing up the conversation!

Update....SOLVED....Whenever I would plugin the relay it would push the connection in until it made contact causing the fan to run. take the relay apart and hold the red wire contact to plug it in . I guess you could glue it in place while you are in there
Thank you for all of your help.
