Re: Service Engine Soon Light is on (cOvette)
You have sort of a hybrid I/II system on your car. You can get the codes w/o a scanner. Here is a post I saved from DavidF:
You can't jump A to B on a 94 it uses a 16 pin ALDL connector you have to jump 4 to
12 which is the 4th from the left on the top row and the one just under it. Then turn
the key on and watch the speedo were the speed is displayed and you will be able to
read code in 1.1 CCM, 4.1 PCM(ECM), 9.1 ABS/ASR, A1 SIR.. Then let us know what
you find and let us know and we can go from there.
When you enter the diagnostic mode this way, the CCM displays the codes for both the CCM and the ECM. The C12 is the normal state code which indicates the CCM is functioning (similar to reading a "code 12" at the start and end of a code series read thru the SES light). H32 is a history code indicating a 32 (EGR) fault -- very common problem, but keep in mind that all ECM codes a re displayed as history codes since the engine is not running so no active code can be set. A quick search of this site will offer more help on a code 32 than you can use. The "9" was cycled to "wait for CCM instructions", then any CCM faults are displayed (you show none). The "1.0" is the "waiting for instructions" mode and you can run further tests manually.
Thanks. I looked through my 2 volume OEM service manual and studied DTC 32 last night. I'll do that routine. The factory service manual mentioned DTC XX codes, but not in the format I got last night (H32, etc.)
