Anyone have a picture of this, or know if it is anything besides a simple washer? It does not appear to be a split ring like (2) according to the diagrams in the FSM. It was missing from the column when I took it apart, and I didn't notice it until I was putting everything together. No, I didn't just lose it either, I took pics of the disassembly, it was not there. Plus, the (4) Wave Washer that goes next to it was in a completely incorrect place (installed between (7) and (8)), courtesy of a previous owner!
Parenthesis numbers refer to FSM diagram part numbers. I hope it is OK to post a pic for quick reference, if not please remove it.
Not sure what you are doing or asking. Bottom up. Bearing, bearing race, spring, steering wheel lock plate, retaining ring (ridged wire ring) fits in groove of plate. Wave washer, SIR coil (clock spring), small external snap ring holds SIR coil in place. Steering wheel then nut. On some models a unique 3 pointed snap ring to prevent steering wheel retaining nut and steering wheel from coming off shaft.
The little part labelled #5 in the diagram was missing from my column. I am trying to figure out if it is simply a washer, as the rather unhelpful diagrams seem to indicate, or anything more than that. The PO had put together the column wrong, such that the wave washer was between the spring and the turn signal cancel, and I am not sure what I need to be shopping for to replace part #5 (either with a direct replacement, or if it is just a washer then a particular size).
Although as I look at a couple diagrams again, it may be 2 and 5 I am getting confused. There was only one snap ring on my shaft, up against the lock plate.
Try YouTube for turn signal switch replacement. To get to turn signal switch both snap or lock rings will have come off. Maybe you can determine what is missing or out of place.
Ah gotcha, that was that PITA wire snap ring that is definitely no longer useable, I am recalling it now that I realize it looks nothing like the diagrams
OK, I swear THIS is the last thing that needs to be ordered to put this column back together after three months of two steps then order another part at a time!
