I need to change my master cylinder. The fluid from my front resivoir is going the the rear one and coming out the cap. Its getting really bad now. I did some searches and it seems that rebuilt is not the way to go. Who has the best price on a new one? I checked carparts.com and it was almost $500.00!

I'd rather have a new one.

I think tld had the best price on an 87, but check all the suspects - zip, corvette central, ecklers, mid-america, and jeff kopp. I heard a lot of bad things about the rebuilt units, but my last one made it five years. My new (reman) one has an intermittant leak though. Every few weeks it'll leave a light film by the rear line - I dry it and it stays bone dry for a month - then I'll check it and there'll be a little bit overnight. Anyway, also do a google search and see what it comes up with. I foud a guy selling surplus 87 reman MCs for $8 a pop.

I think Vette Brakes & Products sells one with a metal casing. The #7 cylinder is pretty darn close to the master cylinder and the standard plastic *may* melt and crack open from excessive heat.

TNT,

I think you are referring to the Brake booster. not the actual Master Cyl.

For fun, I searched the oldest post stored on here that I made.
Looks like 18 years ago Wow does time fly. I actually was a member starting in 1998 but those posts must have all been deleted. I also had a homepage in my profile and it’s gone too. Can anyone else search back further than 2001? This forum, c2 now, has been such a good source of information and fun.

At least it was the OP who bumped a 18 yr old thread. Just to illustrate how long ago that was, I bought a MC for my 89 a few years ago for ~$100. As far as posts before 01, I think there was some kind of server crash that wiped everything out around that time.
