Yes just make sure you don't break the screws or strip them out, they'll be tough to get out if its been in some time.

Mechanic took out thermostat 3 years ago, had some white smoke thought it might be a head gasket so we put in Blue Devil Gasket Sealer, haven't had any issues since, planning to put thermostat back in and coolant
