I set out to simply replace my ignition module this morning and decided to replace the entire distributor in stead. All the connectors and gromets were hard and brittle, and the shaft it's self seemed to have a lot of play.

Who here runs an after market distributor? What kind? Where did you buy it? How much did you pay?

I bought mine from a forum member. Accel blue print with the MSD cap and rotor with the hot coil for like $150 in the box. Mine was in bad shape like the way yours sounds..

Mine has 108K on it. The module was toast not too long ago along with the pickup. I'm going to be running a different distributor when the new computer goes in. I basically have a re-built distributor.

I went with the small cap hei conversion in my 86. I use an MSD unit. It is pretty easy to do or the guys at http://www.performancedistributor.com make one, Accel rebuilds the stock dist.

Stay away from the Accel replacement distributor. The electical parts are of low quality. I had one and 6 months later the ignition module failed. It almost left me stranded.
