1985 corvette weird thing
Okay.
one day I startup my car and it runs fine, the next it does some weird things.
or one hour to the next it goes back and forth
SOMETIMES when I drive (a lot of the time) I’ll be driving and the car will 1. Just die off or 2. It will be driving and then suddenly I hear kind of a “thump” and it won’t accelerate correctly and thumps.
i dont know how to describe it.
the RPMs seem to be all over the place too.
help

Mason, Before the experts chime in they will want to know what you have done. What tune up items like plugs and wire and cap and rotor or anything else you have done. Dan

Check fuel pressure and for spark ideally when car is acting up.

My 85 did this and the MAF burnoff module was the culprit. The next time it does it, try unplugging the MAF and see if it goes away.
The burnoff module is unique to the 85

the MAF itself at the sensor. when you do this the ECM defaults to stock airflow tables (or something like that)
When my car would do it, i could actually smack the breadbox and the car would start running normally again. The module is mounted behind the breadbox
Given that you stated you replaced the fuel pump i think its worth checking the fuel pressure when the engine is acting up
is it throwing any check engine codes?

no check engine lights. It just has the RPM just from like 10 to 20 to 80 to 70 to 20 in idle etc.
when you try to drive it’ll like hesitate with kind of a banging noise and stuff like that.
Then sometimes the car would just turn off.
Breadbox?
edit: okay nevermind. The impact cusion thing is the breadbox. Let me try smacking it and see if it works 😂 if not replace the module behind it?

I'm guessing the banging noise is probably the engine backfiring
