94 auto shift cable binding
The shifter on my 94 auto will only move from Park to about halfway into Reverse, not engaging reverse. How difficult is it to replace the shift cable? Before people start diagnosing, I already removed it from the trans, and I can move the lever on the trans freely. I also took apart the center console, removed it from the shifter, and now the shifter moves its full range of motion. I'm just wondering, do I just yank it out the bottom and feed a new one in, or are there more mounting clips or bolts below the heater controls?

Replacing cable is a PITA because where it goes through floor, and it goes through from the top. You may want a FSM or a few pages to see where screws are and how interior comes apart. If cable moves freely, may not be cable.

Is there any "directionality" on the grommet through which the cable passes, as is the case with my '88?
In my case there is a bracket & retainer clip near the tranny lever and several screws and a clip at the inside grommet.
With tranny & shifter disconnected will the cable move?

I haven't tried to shove it through yet. But yes, the cable is binding. The shifter moves freely, and the trans lever moves freely (with both ends disconnected.
