No gain
Then TBI came out Trans dap started making them claiming some gain. Like most bolt ons they are a gimmick.
Guys use them for tuning with carbs and single planes
Some have what looks like a real coarse thrad (cant think of the term) in the holes for the whole "atomize" pitch....or more plenum volume.
The TBI cars were gutless...everybody who had a 90 454 ss truck had one.
What's their real purpose anyway? Supposed to be a barrier to heat transfer or something? Prevent vapor lock?
How is it going to prevent vapor lock on an EFI engine? Further, most Port EFI "TB spacers" are aluminum...which conducts heat quite well. Not a good insulator/heat barrier.
They're worthless trash on a Port EFI engine. On a carb'ed or TBI'ed engine, it's possible that it could help by adding plenum volume and/or helping w/atomization. A port injected engine won't see any of those possible benefits though, so...total waste of money.
I have one on my 99 suburban with a 5.7 vortec. Had to use one when I changed to the marine intake so I could keep the cruise control. (Clearance issues with the "cam" for the cruise cable linkage on the throttle. ) In the name of science, I tried it on the stock intake before I switched out intakes. Made absolutely no discernable difference other than raising the throttle body. Nothing. No power difference, no throttle response difference. They are useless on port injected motors.
