Just picked up a nice 1992 convertible but the window seals along the top of the doors looks like broken teeth.
How much of a pain is it it replace there?
Did mine last summer, bought from rockauto, easy, 30 mins per door.
Really? I have watched the videos and it does not seem that easy. Drilling out rivets and all. I have been holding off but if you say it is that easy I might go ahead. Do you have a video you used or a set of instructions? Thanks,Dan
Plenty videos on YouTube, make sure you have good quality drill bits and a good rivet gun, took longer to get the door trim off than replace the window seal.
Precision Weatherstrip has a very informative video on you tube on how to replace what is called the belt line weatherstrip. If you've been wrenching for years you can do it. It's not that hard, just take your time, second door goes faster once you know what to expect. I changed mine on my 90 convertible no problem. Makes a world of difference when looking at the car. Bought mine at Corvette Mods and Precision sells them too.
Just wanted to add, that when I was removing the passenger door panel from my "90 there is an additional screw holding the door panel to the door located under the power window switch. Not sure if that applies to 92 vettes but you may want to take a peek under it to see if it's there when removing the door panel.

I want to thank you for your post. I watched the video from Precision and it did not seem so bad and I ordered new sweeps. Thanks, Dan
I did this job on my 86 a little over a year ago.... its not HARD, so to speak, just a job where you need to be careful and persistent with what youre doing. Turn on some music and grab an iced tea and go slowly... the results are satisfying when you step back and look at your work.
Ordered a new driver side outside from Precision yesterday. It was not hard to remove the old one. The screws on my 1996 were not the same as the video but close enough. It took about an hour but I went slow. I bet it takes less time to install the new when it gets here. Dan
Pretty involved as far as getting the whole door apart. The most important part of this job,DONT DRILL A HOLE THROUGH THE DOOR! NOS GM sweeps can be found on eBay from time to time. I’ve got 2 complete GM sets I found on eBay.
Hmm, I got new sweeps for Christmas and have been holding off since it looked to be harder then described above. Looks like i have a job to do this weekend.

I'm thinking a drill-stop collar on the bit will go a LONG way to help preventing going through the door when you get through the rivet.
Basically just a small collar with a setscrew you put near the end of the drill bit.
If you use the correct size drill bit the head will drill off just like it's shown in the video. The head of the rivet remains on the bit and the shank falls in the door where you can't reach it. When I drilled out mine I really didn't apply any pressure on the drill. Just let the bit do the work. But using a drill stop can't hurt.
I finished installing the outside drivers side molding from Precision. It fit perfectly and seems to be very high quality. The only mistake I found in their video was the size of the 3 rivets. I used aluminum 3/16" dia and 1/4" grip to properly rivet the molding. The 1/8" dia and 3/16"grip did not work on my 1996. Thanks to the OP for bringing this up. Don't be scared of it. Dan
So I just did one side today and wanted to share my experience. I have an 87 btw.
Started with taking off the door panel of course. I then lowered the window all the way down to get access to the rivets.
I got my drill bit (a little bigger than the hole) ready with some electrical tape and wrapped a decent amount around the bit about half an inch from the tip so I wouldn’t go through the door. When I realized that the weatherstripping was in my way, I grabbed a rag and put it on top of the weather stripping so the bit would be spinning against the rag and not shredding the weather stripping.
With both rivets drilled out, I started pulling the outter trim off with some force and in an upward motion. You’ll have to wrestle it out but it can be done pretty simply. After I removed it, I cleaned the surface with rubbing alcohol and heated it up a bit with a heat gun to get it ready for my replacement option:
Its simply just a roll of a seal looking thing with some double sided 3m tape and I think it worked great. I stuck it on so that the edge touches the window and it seems to work well. I’m going to attach a picture as well. Overall, I only spent $12 and it took about 30 minutes for a door. Could’ve put them on a bit more straight but it was 93 while I did it so I rushed haha
If it ever rots I’ll just buy another roll and stick it on since I don’t have to remove the old one again
