Default Batwing bushing question

I'm working on replacing the bushings in my rear differential. The old rubber bushing was a pain to get out I had to drill it out. However now that I have it out it seems as though my new poly bushings do not want to fit. It appears like there is a sleeve still in the differential housing. I have included a photo below. To anyone who has replaced these bushings with poly, is this a sleeve that has to come out?

Yes, that needs to come out. Hit it inward w/a punch to collapse it and it will come right out.

Ugh, yeah I figured. I have been banging at this thing for an hour now and all it does is twist and bunch up. Would have been easier to just toss a match into the gas tank😂

They are a pain to get out. Try carefully using a metal hacksaw blade to cut that sleeve in half then, use the punch to force one half out then the second half will fall out easily.

Using the hacksaw blade is really tedious but in the end cutting the sleeve in half will work.

Best of luck!

Depends on the hammer. A 48 -64 oz does wonders.

Cutting it in half with a hacksaw blade did the trick! Thanks for the help everyone.

Easy way is put a visegrip on the lip and twist works for rear sway bar also.
