Just bought my first corvette 89 model I'm trying to look everything over and I stumbled upon this sensor and plug the plug has a green and white wire and do they go together and what r they for?
GRN/WHT wire between 1 & 3 on an '89 would be for the AUX FAN forward of the condensor/radiator module. I'd think your car very likely shows B4P on the SPID label on console lid. You need a fan switch. Confirm the B4P on the SPID
If the SPID is on the console lid and the VIN matches I'd suggest you take a snapshot of it. It will help considerably later on.
Both the CTS ( Coolant Temp Switch ) and the connector are broken. To remove that connector is non-intuitive. With good parts, squeeze the fat sides of the connector, and it will pull straight off. The Knock Sensors have the same connector, but they are located just above the oil pan flange, centered on both sides of the engine ( some years only have one KS, on the RH side ).
Your temp gauge sensor is located in the RH head, between plugs 6 & 8. It has a different style connector.
That is the temperature sensor that turns of the boost fan in front of the condenser. I have the same thing on my 1988 Corvette and it has the green and white wire going to it. it follows the frame rail up to the front and goes into a relay up there. The knock sensor is on the passengers side of the engine. My connector is also broken so if you find a good supply please let me know. Somebody told me that if I ground that Green with White stripe that the fan will start up, I will try it.
WVZR-1 is suggesting a great idea to you. Take a picture of all the SPID and keep it in your Factory Service Manuals for reference. I go one step further and sit down and de-code all the options and items on my Car. It helps you "know" your car better. I found that my 1988 C4 came with an optional rear axle ratio of 3.07-1 as opposed to the standard 2.55 or whatever for the automatic cars.
I got everything installed today thanks for the help and after some digging on rock auto new sensor and connector with over night shipping was only 30 bucks
Rock auto had the connector as well? That is news to me but I will go back and look again. My connector is dried out and broken and I need a new one badly.
Thanks for the update and the solution for your Corvette's issues. By telling us what happened we all learn some more about these cars we all love!
The weather is getting better by the day, it is time to put some miles on your Corvette! No Fear of heat as you have the booster fan working now for you!! I keep a spare relay in the car in case of a relay failure. The fuel pump relay is the same as the cooling fan relays on my 1988 so a spare relay can be used in many places on this Corvette!
