What would it take to put a big block in a C4? What is used for motor mount perches? Exhaust manifolds?
I can barely get a grand for my rolling chassis and I'm starting to look reeaaall hard at a big block swap. I, in fact, have a 396 that's ready to drop in :jester
weve discussed this before....ive been thinking about the same thing....but a little bigger. as far as i can understand, it will pretty much drop in, as long as you use the small diameter damper, and youve gotta be careful with the A/C and brake booster.
do you plan onrunning it carburated? god luck getting that to pass smog in LA. i know there is someone on the forum who has one. cant seem to remember his name right now. it seems to me that it would mess up the weigh distribution.
I think its pretty universally accepted that a BB swap is more work than it is worth in a C4 Corvette.
I can't even fathom the work that would go into it. Converting a truck(which has provisions for a big block) is hard enough, let alone with a car that had one, and only one engine in mind when it was designed.
Colin: More work then its worth. Gotta change the Steering Rack mount, notch the frame for pulley, custom headers, not sure on motor mounts. Also screws the cars balance up.
Just sell the car to me for $500 after the insides been fully gutted and lights are gone :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :D :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
I have had two, one with a 454 and one with a 502. It is a tremendous amount of work! There is nothing quite like the torque :D . You have to buy alot of windshields :(
I'll help answer for him....
He traded a Cumaro for the Vette, Vette wouldnt run right, tore it apart/parting it out, has vette chassis sitting in storage, has extra motor, doesnt want to sell it to me for $500 to make a road race car out of ;)
I think he just wants to put some spare parts together and have some fun.
As for Smog... He knows me... I know people........ :D
Matt
Sounds like a plan to me. :yesnod: I also own a big block 70 Chevelle. So I know and love big block torque  I think vetterestorer posted some pics a while ago of his BB C4 in engine mods. I can't find the post. Wish you the best on the swap
someone posted this a while ago about his 468 (no--not the money pit one), and said it was not that difficult and only added 80lbs or so. so it would handle more like a ZR1, but have the torque of the beasts of old
